Five Days of Football and British Culture
Shortly after the dramatic Tel Aviv derby, the Tel Aviv Municipality is bringing football back into the spotlight, driven by the belief that it is a wonderful game that can be enjoyed through sportsmanship, encouragement, and community spirit. How? Between October 31 and November 4, the city will host Five Days of Football and British Culture an event meant to promote a culture of fair and friendly play, celebrate fan communities, and encourage the city’s shared love of football.
The event, initiated by the city’s community football league in collaboration with the municipality, will take place near Bloomfield Stadium at 14 HaTechiya Street. Entry is free for everyone (fireworks and flares not allowed).
Panels, exhibitions, culture, and a dramatic FIFA tournament with players
Throughout the week, visitors will be able to enjoy a space dedicated to British football culture and learn about its unique historical, social, and artistic aspects. There will be screenings of Premier League matches, talks with former football figures, stand-up comedy on football topics, and various interactive activities such as FIFA and foosball tables. The week will conclude with a special event, a FIFA tournament featuring football players and well-known personalities.
A return to the classic football shirts of the past
Alongside the activities, a pop-up store called “Shefel Shop” will open, offering football shirts and collectible items. The “Liga” brand will also showcase reproductions of vintage shirts from past football teams. Visitors can also find limited-edition posters, stickers, and more.
The people demand grassroots football free from violence
This week is part of an international effort to revive the community and grassroots spirit in a sport that has become a billion-dollar industry, overshadowing the simple joy of football as a social and cheerful game that promotes healthy competition. The inspiration comes from British football, known for its working-class roots, community spirit, and solidarity.
Tel Aviv’s community football league reflects people’s desire to enjoy a local, non-violent sport. Professional Israeli football faces many challenges, and last week’s derby incident is one more reminder that stadiums still suffer from unchecked violence.
Community Football
Community football offers a chance to enjoy the game, teach children about sports values, healthy competition, and love for football regardless of social status, gender, or political identity. It is an opportunity to play together, strengthen community bonds, and promote the joy of the game in a peaceful way.
