Democrats Activist Assaulted at Election Campaign Stand in Holon

An activist from the Democrats was assaulted near the party's campaign stand in Holon on election day. Police have opened an investigation, N12 reported.
The attack was reported at about 15:50 on Tuesday, October 27, while voting was still under way across Israel. Holon is a city just south of Tel Aviv. The Democrats are the left wing party led by Yair Golan.
Attack near the party's stand
According to N12, the activist was attacked close to the party's campaign table. In a statement carried by Channel 14, the party said one of its volunteers was punched. The incident took place at the campaign stand, not inside a polling station, and there was no report of disruption to voting.
Police have not released details about the attacker or what led to the confrontation. Israel News Pulse could not independently find information about an arrest by Tuesday afternoon.
Golan heads to Holon
Channel 14 reported that Golan changed his election day schedule and headed to Holon after hearing of the attack. The Democrats said they would continue campaigning despite threats and attacks.
The party blamed Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for what it called a climate of incitement. That is the party's political accusation. Police have not linked the attack to any political figure.
Second incident for Golan's party in one day
Earlier on Tuesday, police detained a man carrying a knife near Golan in Tel Aviv's Park HaMesila. Police said there had been no attempt to stab him. The two incidents took place in different cities, and police have not connected them.
A tense election day
The Shin Bet tightened security for all government ministers on Tuesday, and leaders across the political map have warned about incitement during the campaign. Polls close at 22:00 at most stations, after which the counting begins.
